We have instant demand for such a solution, since we also do optimization. Therefore, we would greatly appreciate if such a version would be available in the near future. I do not know anything about mpi and wouldn't be much help, but let me know if we can help you otherwise, maybe we can do testing. Since octave runs in a cluster or set of workstations in a lot of cases, it will be usable for a lot of people without too much hardware modifications.
