From octave-graphics-request at bevo dot che dot wisc dot edu Wed May 2 06:03:27 2001 Subject: GUI requirements From: "Volker Augustin" To: Date: Wed, 02 May 2001 13:03:09 +0200 Hello guys, I just finished building a GUI for CoCoA (Computational Commutative Algebra) for the university of Genoa, Italy. The GUI was written in Qt but future version will probably be written in Java. So currently I am thinking about creating an open source GUI for math engines in Java. The GUI should be able to load math engines as plugins or connect to math engines via a network. Moreover, it should be able to connect to different math engines at the same time. This is going to be a major project and I am currently trying to determine what features will be need to make the project a success. Since I read about your plans on creating a GUI I thought you guys might be interrested. I have no experience with octave. Could you please give me a short summary of the features a GUI would have to provide to be useful for octave? Thanks in advance. Volker Augustin P.S.If anyone of you is interested in joining this project, please let me know :-) P.P.S. If you want to take a look at the CoCoA GUI it is available freely http://cocoa.dima.unige.it I just checked and the new version 4.1 is not yet available. It should become available later today or at least by the end of this week.
