1) Is there anybody on this list besides JWE and me?
2) Is there anyone willing to code with me?  Or even not code, just help
design
     the GUI API?
3) Did I already send this message and then lost it in my send mail?

JWE, looking at wxWindows, I believe there is a socket interface
that could be used for interfacing with other programs.  Of course,
I'd prefer some CORBA implementation, but that hasn't been
well standardized yet.
