Subject: octave with shared libraries via apt-get?

I would like to test gtk-octave 0.1 on my debian machine. 
Right now I have octave installed via apt-get but gtk-octave doesn't
compile because the compiler cant find the *.h-files in the
octave-directory.
To compile gtk-octave i need to have an octave with shared libraries
(and dynamic loading turned on) and I guess thats the problem.
So my question is whether i can install an octave with shared libraries
via apt-get or do I need to install it from source with the
--enable-shared option?
