The reason I didn't put this one on my list is because it was already on my system. You can use fink to find out which packages are already installed (i) on your Mac. Perhaps Marius can address this. As you said, only a version for OS X 10.3 is there. I downloaded it and tried to install it, but I got an ERROR 2 (whatever that is). I thought that the entire octave installation would fail, but it didn't.
