Short answer: yes! Long answer: LaTeX is basically a typesetting language, not a graphical document writing program like MSWord. There is a learning curve, but if you have a mind for programming you will love it. Plus it is free. A really good introduction is: http://ctan.tug.org/tex-archive/info/lshort/english/lshort.pdf There are also "intermediate" document writing options, such as LyX.
