I bag your pardon but the information I gave you in the previous e-mail were 
incoplete. 
The error during the evalution of the .emacs file was

Error in init file: Symbol's function definition is void: 
define-obsolete-variable-alias

while

at the execution of the help -i command:

octave> help -i
gnuclient: No such file or directory
gnuclient: unable to connect to local
