From help-octave-request at bevo dot che dot wisc dot edu Wed Dec 22 11:51:37 1999 Subject: Fortran compilers for Alpha Linux From: Heber Farnsworth To: "'help-octave at bevo dot che dot wisc dot edu'" Date: Wed, 22 Dec 1999 11:51:34 -0600 There was some discussion of Fortran compilers for Alpha Linux on this list a while back. The DEC^H^H^H Compaq compilers are highly optimized for Alpha and are now available free from Compaq for Linux to noncommercial users. Check out the web page at http://www.digital.com/fortran/linux Since Octave can be compiled with any fortran compiler this should speed up your Octave performance considerably if you use this compiler in place of f77 or g77, etc. Actually this compiler is a Fortran 95 compiler but it compiles Fortran 77 code very nicely and produces very fast executables.
