No, I would not have guessed that.  Octave runs on a fairly wide
variety of Unixy systems.  Perhaps if you post details about the
problems you are having to bug-octave at bevo dot che dot wisc dot edu, someone will
be able to solve the problems.  Without more information, I doubt that
anyone can be of much help.
