You will need the latest version of GNU make.  Modifying Octave's
Makefiles to work with other make programs is probably not worth
your time.

You can get GNU make via anonymous ftp from prep.ai.mit.edu in the
directory /pub/gnu, or from one of its mirrors.  It is also on
ftp.che.utexas.edu in /pub/gnu.
