This was the minimal patch for the etime bug.

I'm not sure if datesplit has been updated for the new regexp interface
in 2.9.x.  Since I don't have a 2.9.x on my machine I couldn't test it.

You are welcome to submit datevec+datesplit to John for inclusion.
