If it affects only the "-ascii" format then the thread http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/915 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/916 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/919 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/920 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/922 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/923 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/925 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/931 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/935 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/941 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/942 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/946 http://www.octave.org/mailing-lists/bug-octave/2004/957 might be relevant. If, so then the patch proposed and checked into the CVS probably fixes your problem. Could you check if it also affects the "-binary" and "-hdf5" formats.
