I don't have a problem with changing Octave to write out "MATLAB 7.0 MAT-file" since the header is supposed to be ignored anyway, but I think it is bit odd that they are still writing 5.0. Also, I see -V4 and -V6 options in the documentation for Matlab's save command, but no -V5. BTW, I just noticed a more troubling bug. In the documentation for Matlab's save, they now say that character arrays are encoded using Unicode.
