I will try the latest Apple compiler first, because it has been merged 
with the release gcc-4.0.0 code with al its recent bug fixes.

Apple build everything -O2.  So their debugging of this level is pretty 
good.  Your optimisation experience on x86 may not translate to the 
different optimisation on PPC.
