Subject: trouble running octave

I'm new to this so please be patient.
 
Im using an IBM PC running Windows 98 and I installed GNU Octave, Version 2.1.49
 
I installed octave using the instructions found at:  ftp://ftp.octave.org/pub/octave/README.Windows
 
During step 10 of the installation, I could'nt find the package Utils: diff.  All other installation instructions through step 17 worked fine.
 
When I try step 17, I get the octave prompt, but when I try to run sombrero (41) I get the following output:
 
octave:1> sombrero (41)
pgnuplot: not found
warning: broken pipe
warning: in /usr/share/octave/2.1.49/m/plot/mesh.n near line -1, column -1:
 
>>> gsplot (zz);
 
warning: conection to external plotter (pid = 387383) lost --
warning: please try your plot command(s) again

warning: broken pipe
