From bug-octave-request at bevo dot che dot wisc dot edu Mon Apr 5 11:27:43 2004 Subject: Re: Error in ND Array Creation From: David Bateman To: Quentin Spencer Cc: bug-octave at bevo dot che dot wisc dot edu Date: Mon, 5 Apr 2004 18:23:29 +0200 Does it make sense to index into a non-existent object with dimension on both sides taht don't agree . Matlab R12 (the last I have access to) crashes also like this >> a(1,1,:)=ones(1,2); ??? Assignment has more non-singleton rhs dimensions than non-singleton subscripts. What you probably want to do is something like a(1,1,:) = ones(1,1,2); D. According to Quentin Spencer (on 04/05/04): > Bug report for Octave 2.1.57 (built from current CVS) configured for > i686-pc-linux-gnu > > Description: > ----------- > > Assigning a 2-D matrix to a dimension of a N-D array only works after > the N-D array has been created. > > Repeat-By: > --------- > > octave:1> a(1,1,:)=ones(1,2); > error: A(IDX-LIST) = X: X must be a scalar or size of X must equal > number of elements indexed by IDX-LIST > error: assignment failed, or no method for ` = matrix' > error: evaluating assignment expression near line 1, column 9 > octave:1> a(1,1,:)=ones(1,1,2); > octave:2> a(1,1,:)=[1,2] > a = > > ans(:,:,1) = 1 > ans(:,:,2) = 2 > > > Fix: > --- > > > > Configuration (please do not edit this section): > ----------------------------------------------- > > uname output: Linux localhost.localdomain 2.4.22-1.2174.nptl #1 Wed > Feb 18 16:38:32 EST 2004 i686 i686 i386 GNU/Linux > configure opts: '--host=i686-pc-linux-gnu' '--build=i686-pc-linux-gnu' > '--target=i386-redhat-linux-gnu' '--program-prefix=' '--prefix=/usr' > '--exec-prefix=/usr' '--bindir=/usr/bin' '--sbindir=/usr/sbin' > '--sysconfdir=/etc' '--datadir=/usr/share' '--includedir=/usr/include' > '--libdir=/usr/lib' '--libexecdir=/usr/libexec' '--localstatedir=/var' > '--sharedstatedir=/usr/com' '--mandir=/usr/share/man' > '--infodir=/usr/share/info' '--enable-dl' '--enable-shared=yes' > '--enable-rpath' '--enable-lite-kernel' '--enable-static=no' 'CFLAGS=-O2 > -g -pipe -march=i386 -mcpu=i686' 'CXXFLAGS=-O2 -g -pipe -march=i386 > -mcpu=i686' 'FFLAGS=-O2 -g -pipe -march=i386 -mcpu=i686' > 'build_alias=i686-pc-linux-gnu' 'host_alias=i686-pc-linux-gnu' > 'target_alias=i386-redhat-linux-gnu' > Fortran compiler: g77 > FFLAGS: -O2 -g -pipe -march=i386 -mcpu=i686 > F2C: > F2CFLAGS: > FLIBS: -L/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/3.3.2 > -L/usr/lib/gcc-lib/i386-redhat-linux/3.3.2/../../.. -lfrtbegin -lg2c -lm > -lgcc_s > CPPFLAGS: > INCFLAGS: -I. -I. -I./liboctave -I./src -I./libcruft/misc > -I./glob -I./glob > C compiler: gcc, version 3.3.2 20031022 (Red Hat Linux 3.3.2-1) > CFLAGS: -O2 -g -pipe -march=i386 -mcpu=i686 > CPICFLAG: -fPIC > C++ compiler: g++, version 3.3.2 > CXXFLAGS: -O2 -g -pipe -march=i386 -mcpu=i686 > CXXPICFLAG: -fPIC > LD_CXX: g++ > LDFLAGS: > LIBFLAGS: -L. > RLD_FLAG: -Wl,-rpath -Wl,/usr/lib/octave-2.1.57 > BLAS_LIBS: -llapack -lblas > FFTW_LIBS: -lfftw3 > LIBS: -lreadline -lncurses -ldl -lm > LEXLIB: > LIBPLPLOT: > LIBDLFCN: > LIBGLOB: ./glob/glob.o ./glob/fnmatch.o > SED: /bin/sed > DEFS: > > -DPACKAGE_NAME="" -DPACKAGE_TARNAME="" -DPACKAGE_VERSION="" > -DPACKAGE_STRING="" -DPACKAGE_BUGREPORT="" -DOCTAVE_SOURCE=1 > -DSTDC_HEADERS=1 -DHAVE_SYS_TYPES_H=1 -DHAVE_SYS_STAT_H=1 > -DHAVE_STDLIB_H=1 -DHAVE_STRING_H=1 -DHAVE_MEMORY_H=1 -DHAVE_STRINGS_H=1 > -DHAVE_INTTYPES_H=1 -DHAVE_STDINT_H=1 -DHAVE_UNISTD_H=1 -DSEPCHAR=1 > -DSEPCHAR_STR=":" -D__NO_MATH_INLINES=1 -DCXX_NEW_FRIEND_TEMPLATE_DECL=1 > -DCXX_ISO_COMPLIANT_LIBRARY=1 -DCXX_ABI=unknown -DHAVE_LIBM=1 > -DHAVE_FFTW3=1 -DF77_FUNC(name,NAME)=name ##
