I discovered it few days ago and I did some tests with it. I have a Pentium Pro 200 MHz with Linux Slackware 3.1 (gcc 2.7.2, g77 0.5.18, Kernel 2.0.0). The machine is defined as i686. I am not familiar with the compile procedures. So I just wanted to compile it as simple as possible. Octave 1.1.1 : I had to change a little bit the config files just to define my CPU with the number 6 within I[345] or I[34]. After that I made ./configure and make. There is a problem, g77 is not taken in account. The system is looking for f77. Finally I created f77 as a link with g77. It worked but to my opinion, this is not a good way to solve the problem. Octave 1.93 : I downloaded the beta version 1.93 and did exactly the same than with 1.1.1. I changed a little bit config.status just to include the number 6 in I[345]. and I typed ./configure. I send you the config.log file. I think it could help you, I am not a programmer but I think there are too many things in this log report. Nevertheless I send the make process and I obtained a binary that seems to work (as far as I tested it). I spend a lot of time to search information about how to created files, scripts for Octave (mainly how to define a variable). Finally I found the information in the c++ code of the load-save function. To my opinion things can be really improved in the online manual. For the moment I am still searching for the way to change the LOADPATH variable in a proper way within .octaverc. I think I have a problem of synthax. I think also that an example in the online help pages would be welcome. However, I am very grateful for the job you are doing with octave. This will help me in my job now and will let me save a huge amount of time. Best regards, Daniel TOURDE PS : Do you know if it exist a neural network tool for octave ? -- ********************************************************************* Daniel TOURDE E-mail : ted at ffa dot se The Aeronautical Research Institute of Sweden Tel : +46 8 634 13 44 P.O.
