I have version 1.1.1 (at least that is what it says for the version
command).  I downloaded the linux binaries from sunsite.unc.edu.  I can't
explain why two different versions of 1.1.1 would give a different
answer.  I'll look into getting a better source.

I also want to mention that you are performing quite a service making
Octave available as free software.
