Dear John,

I have succesfully built octave and uploaded a binary distribution to
ftp.che.utexas.edu.

I made:

>./configure
>gmake CFLAGS=-O CXXFLAGS=-O LDFLAGS=
>gmake prefix=(mydirectory)
>gmake binary-dist
>gzip octave-0.79.tar
>mv octave-0.79.tar.gz octave-0.79.hpux.tar.gz

Further Informations
>uname -a
HP-UX aladin A.09.01 A 9000/720 
>gcc -v
Reading specs from /usr/local/lib/gcc-lib/hp720/2.4.5/specs
gcc version 2.4.5
