AAAAAhhhhhhhhrrrrrrgggggg, 

on my last core dump with segmentation fault, my .octave_hist
got clobbered.  This is a major inconvenience since I had stored a lot
of work in that file.  Did this happen because I chmod'ed
~/.octave_hist to ugo+rwx and then had a core dump?

I want to avoid having this happen again.
